About Chris Hughes
I have been a hypnotist for over 10 years and I specialise in helping people stop smoking and lose weight. I regularly do demonstrations, 1 day training events, talks and hypnosis shows all over the UK.
I am a strong believer that hypnosis for entertainment is not a bad thing if done in a safe way with proper training. Most people get their first introduction to the power of hypnosis through, for example a stage hypnosis show at university. So I use these shows to not only provide fun for the guests but also as a way to demonstrate the power of suggestion.
i am graduate of the Omni Hypnosis Training Centre in Florida and trained with Gerald F. Kein one of America's leading hypnotists. I am certified hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotists which is the largest and oldest hypnotherapy membership organisation in the world.
My diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy hypnotherapy is validated by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. This council assess the training of all their members to ensure they have the correct training.
I am also member of the General Hypnotherapy Register which is currently the largest professional registering organisation for practising hypnotherapists in the UK.
A few common questions about hypnotherapy on the NHS
Can you get hypnosis on the NHS?
- Yes it is possible to get Hypnotherapy prescribed through the NHS.
- On the 25 March 2004 a new mechanism called APMS (Alternative Provider Medical Route) made it easier for NHS Doctors to use CAM (Complementary and Alternative Therapies) practitioners.
- More people need to approach there NHS GPs or specialists for hypnotherapy. This will help raise awareness and understanding of what is such a powerful solution to many problems.
A typical Hypnosis session used for therapy
Pre-Hypnosis InterviewAn interview is done, general life-style information is gathered and suggestibility testing is performed.
During this interview both written and verbal information about your issues is recorded. Information such as when the issue is a problem, when it is worse or better, how it affects you, how would you like it to be.
We'll also explore your motivation for change. It's important that you understand that for lasting change to take place your decision to utilise hypnosis must be self-directed.
If this is your first time, you probably do not know what to expect; and might have misconceptions about the process. For instance, you may feel as though your body is asleep and that your mind is aware and may question whether you've been hypnotised. During the pre-induction interview, I will explain how hypnosis is an interactive, cooperative experience., and that we build the hypnotic experience together. (All hypnosis is really self hypnosis). In your first session, I'll determine what type of induction will suit you best and what suggestions will be appropriate for you. We'll establish trust, build rapport, build your sense of positive expectation and correct any misconceptions you have. Each subsequent session begins with an interview to determine your progress and current goals.
Setting realistic, Positive goalsTogether, we'll identify goals that are positive, realistic, believable and achievable. For instance, rather than "I don't want to be nervous in front of crowds." for your goal... We would re-phrase the goal to. "I am calm and confident in front of crowds."
The Induction - Taking you into hypnosisThere are many types of hypnotic inductions. Over several sessions, inductions can become instantaneous or rapid because positive expectation and post hypnotic suggestions for trance have been established. However, depending on your needs, inductions can last from 10-20 minutes and might incorporate several induction processes.
Initially, I will choose the method that best suits your personality and needs and program direct suggestions while you are in trance. In direct suggestion, a client interacts verbally very little, if at all, with the hypnotist.
Suggestions for ChangeHypnotic suggestion is a rapid yet long lasting way for a client to reframed negative old beliefs and patterns of behaviour into new and positive beliefs and behaviours that result in success.
Emerging from HypnosisAfter "emerging" suggestions are given, you will emerge, remember your session, and feel wonderfully refreshed from the hypnotic experience.
